Members Present: Robin Barefield, Melvin Collins, Belinda Cosgrove, Dennis Cottrell, Shirley Curtis, Linda Dudley, Dennis Fuller, Rhonda Hadley, Lee Johnson, Andy Jones, Peggy Kenderick, Brianne Pickard, Rodney Strong, Tyna Studebaker, Margaret Thompson, Jimmy Wesson , Elaine White

Non Members Present: Carlos Barromeo , Jimmy Brown , Dorcy Corbin

Meeting called to order at 11:00a.m.

Dennis Cottrell led the opening prayer

Kristi Padgett made a motion to approve the minutes from the October 20, 2010 meeting without reading aloud. Rhonda Hadley seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Belinda Cosgrove gave treasures report. Kristi Padgett made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report. Jimmy Wesson seconded motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Kristi Padgett gave an update on AJDA Spring Training. Enhancing Juvenile Services in Detention will be the theme for the 2010 AJDA Spring Training. Informational packets will be sent out as soon as the training date and hotel has been confirmed.

Belinda Cosgrove gave an update on the AJDA website. ACJJ will be posting links on the AJDA website.

New Business

Belinda Cosgrove stated that she had spoke with Carlos Barromeo prior to our meeting and that he stated that FINS juveniles did not have to be in sight and sound separation from the other juveniles.

Dorcy Corbin stated that Connie Hickman- Tanner had sight and sound separation for FINS juveniles in the judge’s bench book.

Jimmy Brown stated that we would need to get a ruling on what he exact definition of separation was.

Carlos Barromeo gave different scenarios to demonstrate what is expectable and not expectable when placing juveniles in detention.

Carlos Barromeo spoke about the state being out of compliance.

Carlos Barromeo stated that they are currently working on parental handbooks, so the parents will know what to expect and their child’s rights while they are in detention

Carlos Barromeo spoke about the JJDP monitoring and self reporting form that he is working on for each juvenile detention center. Carlos also stated that all the juvenile detention centers needed to make sure their Policy and Procedures are up to date and in order.

Dorcy Corbin wanted to know if all juvenile detention centers followed the juveniles IEP while in detention.

Belinda Cosgrove thanked Carlos Barromeo and Dorcy Corbin for attending our meeting.

Next AJDA meeting will be at the 2010 Spring Training.

Kristi Padgett made motion to adjourn. Rhonda Hadley seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 12:10p.m.
